Beguiling coasters handcrafted in the Lake District; inspired by the natural landscape.
The soft lavender (almost grey) colour alludes to the heather on the fells (hills). However, the abstract nature of the design allows multiple interpretations. For one customer, the coasters were reminiscent of a misty winter day in Windermere.
The soft natural colour of the coasters will complement any decor. The perfect (practical) gift for a friend – or a special treat for yourself.
Each coaster is approximately 9 x 9 cm (~ 3.5 x 3.5 inches) with silicon ‘feet’ (bumper stops) attached for extra grip and protection.
A little more about THE HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: The subtle natural lavender colour was achieved by fusing several layers of purple and blue opalescent artisan glass powder into a sheet of white glass. This glass was hand cut to size and placed on top of a piece of crystal clear sheet glass cut to the same size. The prepared coasters were then fired in the kiln over a 24 hour period. The glass was gradually heated up to just over 800 degrees Celsius, then cooled down very slowly to ensure that it annealed fully. This allowed the glass to strengthen and ensured the durability of the coaster. Bumper stops were then added to the underside of each coaster.
PACKAGING: The coasters will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap and posted in a well padded box. Although not always feasible, whenever possible, I attempt to reuse packaging in order to reduce the environmental impact.
