A contemporary plum and silver grey glass art wave handcrafted in the Lake District; inspired by the natural landscape in the Lyth Valley.
The large wave was handmade from transparent plum, silver grey and crystal clear artisan glass.
The plum glass is a light purple colour with warm red undertones – reminiscent of the damson orchards in the Lyth Valley.
It is approximately 37.5 cm (L) x 15 cm (H) x 5 cm (D). ***About 15 inches (L) x 6 inches (H) x 2 inches (D).
The textured nature of the clear glass adds additional visual and tactile interest.
It is a striking piece of glass art suitable for placement on any flat surface.
It looks particularly stunning placed in front of a window or other direct light source, as the translucent nature of the wave allows light to shine through and reflect colour onto the surrounding surfaces.
A little more about THE HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: In order to create the wave, I first cut transparent plum and silver grey sheet glass (by hand) into the desired shapes. I then placed the coloured glass on a clear glass base and added crystal clear glass frit (crushed glass). After assembling the piece, it was placed in the kiln and subjected to a contour fuse. This allowed the individual pieces to fuse together but still retain some of their original shape and texture. The panel was then cold-worked before being fired once more. It was then placed in another kiln on top of a ceramic mould and fired one final time, in order to shape the piece into an s-curve.
PACKAGING: All items will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap and posted in a well padded box. Although not always feasible, whenever possible, I attempt to reuse packaging in order to reduce the environmental impact.
