A contemporary cobalt blue glass wave handcrafted in the Lake District; inspired by the natural landscape.
The large artisanal wave was handmade from opalescent cobalt blue and crystal clear artisan glass.
It is approximately 37.5 cm (L) x 12.7 cm (H) x 5 cm (D). ***About 15 inches (L) x 5 inches (H) x 2 inches (D).
The textured nature of the clear glass adds additional visual (and tactile) interest.
It is a striking piece of glass art suitable for placement on any flat surface.
A little more about THE HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: In order to create the wave, I first fused opalescent cobalt blue glass powder (finely crushed glass) into a sheet of crystal clear glass. I then cut this (by hand) into the desired shapes. (The glass was cut in a way to mimic the flow of water). I then placed the coloured glass on a clear glass base and added crystal clear glass frit (crushed glass). After assembling the piece, it was placed in the kiln and subject to a contour fuse. This allowed the individual pieces to fuse together but still retain some of their original shape and texture. The panel was then cold-worked and fired once more before being placed in another kiln on top of a ceramic mould and fired a final time to shape the piece into an s-curve.
***As each wave is individually handcrafted and purposefully unique, there will be some variation from the images shown. Please message me if you would like to see a photo of the actual item prior to purchase.
