Large Turquoise and Sky Blue Glass Art Wave, Handmade Mantlepiece Ornament

£60.00

Availability: 1 in stock

A large turquoise and sky blue glass art wave handcrafted in the Lake District; inspired by the natural landscape.

The fused glass ornament was handmade from transparent turquoise, sky blue and crystal clear artisan glass.

It is approximately 37 cm (W) x 10 cm (H) x 5 cm (D).

The textured nature of the crystal clear glass adds visual (and tactile) interest.

The freestanding wave is a stand-alone piece of glass art suitable for display on any flat surface, such as a mantlepiece, bookshelf, coffee table, windowsill or bathroom shelf.

It looks particularly stunning when placed in front of a window or other direct light source, as the translucent nature of the ornament allows light to shine through and reflect onto the surrounding surfaces.

It could be used in the evening as a table or shelf decoration with a series of tea lights or votive candles placed behind it.

A little more about the HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: In order to create the ornament, I first cut transparent turquoise sheet glass by hand into the desired shape. Next, I cut strips of the sky blue glass, then arranged the cut pieces on a clear glass base and added crystal clear glass frit (crushed glass). After assembling the piece, I placed it in the kiln and subjected it to a contour fuse. This allowed the individual pieces to fuse together but still retain some of their original shape and texture. The panel was then cold-worked and fired once more, before being placed in another kiln on top of a ceramic mould and fired a final time to shape the piece into a s curve.

PACKAGING: The wave will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap, placed within a well padded box. Although not always feasible, whenever possible, I attempt to reuse packaging in order to reduce the environmental impact.
