A vibrant yellow and blue glass art ornament handcrafted in the Lake District; reminiscent of glorious summer days in the Lakes.
The ornamental wave was handmade from transparent yellow, iridescent royal blue and crystal clear artisan glass.
The iridescent blue glass has a ‘rainbow’ shimmer. The appearance of the glass changes with both light and viewpoint. It ranges from a pewter-blue to a deep purple with a gold lustre.
It is approximately 23 cm (L) x 7.5 cm (H) x 3 cm (D).
The textured nature of the clear glass adds additional visual (and tactile) interest.
It is a stand-alone piece of glass art suitable for display on any flat surface.
The freestanding wave looks particularly stunning placed in front of a window or other direct light source, as its translucent nature allows light to shine through and reflect colour onto the surrounding surfaces.
It could be used in the evening as a table or shelf decoration with a tealight or small candle behind it.
A little more about THE HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: In order to create the wave, I first cut transparent yellow artisan sheet glass (by hand) into the desired shape. I then cut strips of iridescent royal blue glass. Next, I placed the coloured glass on a clear glass base and added crystal clear glass frit (crushed glass). After assembling the piece, it was placed in the kiln and subjected to a contour fuse. This allowed the individual pieces to fuse together but still retain some of their original shape and texture. The fused panel was then cold-worked before being fired once more. Next, it was placed in another kiln on top of a ceramic mould and fired a final time, to shape the piece into a s-curve.
PACKAGING: All items will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap and posted in a well padded box. Although not always feasible, whenever possible, I attempt to reuse packaging in order to reduce the environmental impact.
